A group of 36 farmers from five blocks of Gopalganj district, Bihar visited at ICAR-CISH Lucknow

A group of 36 farmers from five blocks of Gopalganj district, Bihar visited at ICAR-CISH Lucknow, U.P. on 14th December, 2022. Interaction with the farmers was held and they enthusiastically participated in the field visit. Farmers were made aware about the institute technologies. The role of crop diversification was discussed for enhancing farmers’ income. Adoption of early, medium and late varieties of mango was suggested. Mango cultivars like Mallika, Amrapali were advocated to grow for enhancing income. Farmers were motivated to grow jamun, aonla, papaya and lemon in their fields. Importance of canopy management in Jamun and other trees was discussed. Soil health management and micronutrient management for quality fruit production were discussed. Spraying of micronutrients at pea, marble and fruit developmental stages in mango and guava stage were suggested to get quality production. Hindi literature on scientific zinc and boron management in guava was distributed to the farmers. Farmers were encouraged for organic cultivation of vegetables. The importance of water conservation at critical fruit growth and development and vegetable production were disscussed. To enhance income and nutritional security even from waste lands, growing of various fruit crops like bael, custard apple was suggested. Problems of insects and disease managements of mango and guava were also discussed to reduce pesticide load. During field visits, scientists took feedback from the farmers and solved their queries. This programme was sponsored by Department of Horticulture, Gopalganj district of Bihar in collaboration with Indira Gandhi Institute of Cooperative Management, Rajajipuram, Lucknow. Dr. Naresh Babu (Principal Scientist), Dr. Tarun Adak (Senior Scientist) and Arvind Kumar (Assistant Chief Technical Officer) coordinated the visit.
